The Voting Booth is now working! Because of inaccurate results obtained when we asked, "What is your favorite song on "The Cars" (1978) debut album," the voting results have been reset; this topic will be available to vote on for about three weeks (until November 15, 1997). If you encounter any problems with this, or any other feature on "Heartbeat City", please e-mail Dale Feinstein at dalef@iname.com. Thanks.
A Cars' Windows 95 Desktop theme is now available for a limited time! This will update icons, the desktop background image, system sounds, etc., to remind you of The Cars whenever you use your computer! Visit the Cars' Windows 95 Desktop Theme page for more information. Links have been placed on the Main Page and the Miscellaneous page for this theme.
The Main Page has been updated to state the best Web browser to use in order to experience this site. Netscape Navigator 3.x or above has been determined to be the optimal browser for this Web site. Other browsers, such as Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.x or above will function, but some of the advanced features included on this site will not work. Furthermore, there has been a minor rearrangement on the Main Page of some of the features toward the top of the page.
The audio clip of "You Might Think" is now back on the Main Page. However, now it is in the form of a RealAudio clip, which uses a process known as streaming so you will not have to wait for the entire audio file to load before it plays; it will play as it downloads. In order to listen to this audio clip, you must have the RealAudio plug-in installed (which is usually standard on most versions of Netscape 3.0 and above) and the RealPlayer installed; the RealPlayer can be downloaded for FREE at Progressive Networks' Web site: http://www.realaudio.com/ . If you experience any problems with this feature, or anything else, please e-mail Dale Feinstein at dalef@iname.com. Thanks.

The "Troublizing" scroll on the Main Page has been updated to load quicker; a link has also been provided on the Links to Other Sites page to Ric Ocasek's Official Troublizing Web site. Thursday, September 11, 1997
The lists of links to other sites have been moved from the Main Page to their own Links to Other Sites page; this page will be linked from the Main Page and also from the Miscellaneous page. Also, alternate text for all of the photos on the site have been provided, for the convenience of those not receiving graphics, and those who are using Web browsers that show alternate text when the mouse pointer is placed over the image (Netscape Navigator 4.x, Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.x, etc.)
The "Other Comments" portion of the Visitors' Survey has been updated to request that questions be directed to the appropriate e-mail address, as listed on the E-mail Us page. Comments, of course, may still be sent via the Visitors' Survey, but questions should be e-mailed for a quicker response.
A link to the new Heartbeat City News Page has been added to the Miscellaneous page; this section will provide general news on music, videos, television, and the like. Even though it does not pertain directly to The Cars or ORR, we hope you enjoy it. In addition, a link to Ric Ocasek's Troublizing RealAudio Mix has been provided on the Audio Clips page; all of the RealAudio clips are on Ric Ocasek's site (Sony), but Heartbeat City has linked them together, so all eleven (11) songs will play in a row (each song is about 30 seconds in length).
ORR Online, a special section of "Heartbeat City," has been inaugurated today! This site will provide information on Ben Orr's hot new band, ORR. Enjoy!
The "Heartbeat City" Guestbook is now back online! It is not as customized as our previous one, but we hope you enjoy it. In addition, all upcoming concert information has been removed from the Ben Orr in Concert (Venues) page; ORR is still touring, so please check local radio to see if they are appearing near you. It is a show you will not want to miss! Also, the Visitors' Survey has been revised to include choices for the most recent versions of Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer (4.x, though Explorer is still in beta at this time).
The Ben Orr in Concert (Venues) page has been updated to include information about ORR's upcoming concert in Quincy, Illinois, and NOT Springfield, Illinois, as originally listed. We apologize for this error, and thank Dave O. for correcting it.
Tuesday, July 8, 1997
The Ben Orr in Concert (Venues) page has been updated; no new venues have been added in the past three days, but more information about the locations that were listed have been provided. Make every effort to attend! You will NOT be disappointed!
The customized directions to Reno, Nevada (NV) on the Ben Orr in Concert (Venues) page now function properly. The drop-down menu towards the top of each page ("Drive to your Selected Location") has been updated to include the ORR in Concert section. The Search Engine will now search for all pages on this site, including the ORR in Concert section. The Javascript scrolling-text bar on the Main Page has been revised to keep the animated beating hearts on the same line as the text bar, at least with most Web browsers.
Saturday, June 28, 1997
Two new dates have been added to the Ben Orr In Concert Venues page. Also, the ORR logo had been updated.
Tuesday, June 17, 1997

The Cars Chat has been re-enabled, though this chat is of a different type. This chat will not place enormous strain on our Web server. However, it does require a Java-enabled browser such as Netscape Navigator 2.x (or higher) or Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.x or higher. Please be sure Java is enabled in your Web browser before you use this chat.
All vocal (.wav) audio clips on "Heartbeat City" have been disabled. However, all of the MIDI files are still available for your listening pleasure. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
The Cars' Chat has been temporarily closed due to technical difficulties. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. We are currently working on a solution to this problem. Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding in this matter.
An "Expanded View" function has been added to the Cars Web Chat; this will allow you to have more screen space for larger windows. If you decide to use this feature, you can close the chat window when you are done chatting, in order to return to "Normal View."
Saturday, May 10, 1997
All of the pages on this site have been checked for spelling errors, with the exception of the (Song) Lyrics pages (Ric invents many of his own words). There still may be a few grammatical errors present, and we will correct these when we find them.
The Cars Web Chat has now been moved to our main server at America's Town Square. This should decrease the amount of downtime of this feature.
Wednesday, April 2, 1997
A new access counter has replaced the older one on this site. This counter will include all accesses to all of "Heartbeat City"'s Web pages. The counter will remain in it's same location on the Main Page. In addition, the link to Night Spots: The Cars Graphic Library has been changed to reflect its new URL. Moreover, more of our audio clips are stored locally, instead of on America Online, which should decrease download times.
"Heartbeat City" now has a new home on America's Town Square, Inc. Thanks to America's Town Square for hosting this site! You should encounter less delays when loading pages, and "Heartbeat City" should now be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
In addition, a search engine is now installed. This "Search!", as it is labeled on the Main Menu, will allow you to search for any text on "Heartbeat City - A Fan-authored Web Site About The Cars".
Do you have a web site devoted to something great that came out from the 1980's? Now you can win our "Children of the 80's Award", especially designed to honor sites that highlight all different aspects of this wondrous decade! If your site is eligible, click the award graphic and fill out the application! There's awards for Music, TV & Movies, Collectibles, Technology, Trends, Celebrities, and of course, 80's Memories. Good luck!!
The Cars' Voting Booth is now online! The current topic to be voted on is your favorite Cars' solo artist. The Main Menu has been updated to reflect this new addition to "Heartbeat City." In addition, a section has been added, called Cars Chat Availability Times; this section will list the day(s) and time(s) when Cars' fans will be available to chat. Please note that you are NOT required to list when you are available to chat; you may use the Cars Chat anytime you wish! This service is only provided as a convenience to users of the Cars Chat.
Saturday, February 22, 1997
The Help? section has been updated to include the live web Cars Chat.
Thursday, February 20, 1997
An online Cars Chat is now available! This will provide a real-time forum for Cars' fans everywhere. It is recommended that Netscape Navigator 3.0 (or above) or Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0 (or above) be used to access this online chat. Furthermore, a section on the Main Menu has been added to include the Cars Chat.
The Visitor Survey has been modified, so that it will no longer be sent as an e-mail message. Some Web browsers were experiencing difficulties sending the results by e-mail, so now the information will be sent to a CGI script. This method should be compatible with all standard Web browsers. If you should encounter any difficulties, please e-mail Dale Feinstein.
After being locked out of our site for a few days, we are finally able to update it now!
The Discography and Lyrics to Milkwood: "How's the Weather" have been added along with the Milkwood section on the Pre-Cars Band page being updated to include a Quick Song List drop-down menu and new text. Also, photo #25 has been changed on Solo Projects - page 2 with the corresponding title on the Photo Credits page also being updated. The Main Page had also been updated to show these changes.
In addition, all of "Heartbeat City - A Fan-authored Web Site About The Cars" pages now include a reference to the site's name in the main title. This is to assist web users who may link to one of our pages from a search engine or another web page, so they will know immediately where they are.
Many of this site's pages containing embedded audio clips have been revised to include multiple players throughout the page; hopefully, this will make it easier for you to enjoy the audio clips. In addition, the Cars' Discography and Lyrics page has been updated to include a reference to the .wav audio clip of "You Are the Girl."

Best wishes to all in 1997 and beyond. 1997 is the 20th year anniversary of The Cars!
A minor update has been made to The Cars' Comics Collection. Also, we noticed that we had two graphics with the same filenames, although they were located in different directories; this would only be noticeable if you were saving graphics from this site in the same directory on your computer system. Therefore, the Pre-Cars Bands page and the Photo Credits page has been revised.
Tuesday, December 31, 1996
A new comic has been submitted by one of Heartbeat City's visitors, Dave Curry. You can see it when you visit the Cars' Comics Collection.
Unfortunately, we have been experiencing problems with certain web browsers while submitting the Visitor Survey and Feature Question. Since these surveys are sent via e-mail, please be sure your web browser is configured properly to send e-mail. In addition, we have altered the HTML code so most browsers should not have problems submitting information, but there are still certain web browsers that do not submit forms by e-mail properly; if you find that you cannot submit your response by using the fill-in-the-blank forms, you may send us an e-mail message with the requested information (please state in the message that your browser would not properly submit the form, and please also list what browser [and web browser version] you were utilizing at the time). As we state on the Main Page, the best browsers to use when experiencing this site are Netscape Navigator 3.x (or above) or Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.x (or above). Thank you very much.
Unfortunately, our guestbook is no longer functional. For details, please visit the Guestbook page. Thanks.

A minor update was made on Awards Page 3; we originally linked to the image of an Canuck's Choice Award - World Class Site. However, we were recently informed by the site's owner, that his Internet Service Provider (ISP) does not allow direct links to images on his site. This was an oversight on our part, and we apologize for putting the existence of his page in jeopardy. We originally provided off-site links to award images, as a way of clearing more disk space. If any award issuer does not wish for us to link their award image directly, please e-mail Dale Feinstein, stating which award you want the link removed from. Thank you.
Links throughout the site have been updated to reflect the new locations of the Solo Projects information, since this information is now divided into two separate pages. If you find any links that do not function properly, please e-mail Dale O. Feinstein at dalef@iname.com, informing him of what page you found errors on and the particular links that need to be corrected. Thanks for your help.
Tuesday, November 19, 1996
The Solo Project page has been divided into two pages for faster loading and includes convenient new links. Also, several new still images have been added to the Solo Projects -- Page 1 and the "Door To Door" album page; the corresponding Photo Credits page has also been updated. To conserve our web server space, external links have been provided for many of the awards; this may result in a slightly longer downloading time.
Sunday, November 17, 1996
The text has been updated on "Door To Door" album page including video summaries for "You Are the Girl" and "Strap Me In." Several updates have been added to the Solo Projects page, including video summaries for "True To You", "Stay the Night" and "Too Hot To Stop." Other updates include a pop-down menu for "Change No Change" (Elliot Easton), new photos, and other text updates. Also, a new checkered flag graphic has been added at the bottom of each page containing descriptive text. In addition more awards have been added the Awards Page 2 and an Awards Page 3 has also been created.
Thursday, November 14, 1996
The JavaScript scrolling marquee on the main page has been updated. It should now load quicker than it did before. In addition, the text bar that used to appeared to non-JavaScript-capable browsers should no longer appear to them.
Some of the new animated graphics that are currently on this site may not appear to individuals using older browsers and browsers other than Netscape Navigator 2.0, or above, or Microsoft Internet Explorer. The best browsers in which to view this site are Netscape Navigator 3.0 (or above) or Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0 (or above). Other browsers will work, but you will miss out on many features.
The following pages have been updated: Individual Backgrounds, Greg Hawkes' Discography, FAQ, and the Awards Page. Also two more MIDI (instrumental) clips have been added to the Audio Clips page: "Good Times Roll" and "Just What I Needed." There's also some exciting new animated graphics added throughout the site - to compliment the title of our page, "Heartbeat City," you'll see beating hearts all over the site!! Other changes have also been made on the main page including a new animated "new" graphic and a newly worded counter.

We are proud to announce that "Heartbeat City" is now an award-winning site! If you wish to examine the awards we have won, please visit the Awards page; there is also a link to this page on the main page, below the main menu. In addition, the FAQ has been updated.
The audio clips that are embedded in some of the web pages will NO longer play automatically; you may press "Play" if you wish to hear the sound clip. This idea was suggested by one of our visitors. In addition, a .wav audio clip of "Stay the Night" by Benjamin Orr has also been embedded in the Solo Projects page and of course is also listed on the Audio Clips page. Moreover, a link to the Ultimate Band List has been added to the main page.
Saturday, October 26, 1996
The Visitor Survey has been updated; only one more question has been added. In addition, links to two vocal audio clips have been provided on the Audio Clips page. These audio clips are "It's All I Can Do" and "Touch and Go."
Thursday, October 24, 1996
The dimensions of the images found on this site have been added to the HTML code; this will allow all the text for each page to appear before all the images are done loading. In addition, links to two other sites have been added to the main page: Ben Orr & The Cars Again and Danny's Classic Rock Link Page.
A scrolling marquee has been added to the main page; this will be used to provide important information in a concise manner. This feature will only be available to users of web browsers that are JavaScript capable (with JavaScript enabled). Netscape Navigator 3.0 and Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0 are excellent browsers in which to view this feature. In addition, the page that describes difficulties in accessing this site at certain times as been updated.
Tuesday, October 15, 1996
Because of technical difficulties, the .wav audio clips of "Emotion In Motion" and "Panorama" are of poor quality. We will be updating these audio clips within the next few days to hopefully remove some of the "crackling" and "distant audio." Thanks for your understanding in this matter.
We have added two new .wav files! Look for them on the following pages: Solo Projects and Panorama album page; in addition, the corresponding Audio Clips page has also been updated. Also, several still images taken from videos have been added throughout the site! For reference, check out the Photo Credits page.
Furthermore, this site's title on the main page has been redesigned into a more professional style. If it is difficult to read on your monitor, please e-mail Dale.
Tuesday, October 1, 1996
Some problems with the Visitor Survey have been repaired. If you have used it on Monday, September 30, 1996, please re-submit your information, because some of it may have been "lost." Thank you very much.
Monday, September 30, 1996
A Visitor Survey has been added that will ask your input on The Cars, their albums and solo projects, this site and more; this form will be submitted by e-mail (after you press the Submit button on the form), since we do not currently have cgi-bin access. A MIDI audio clip (instrumental) of "You Might Think" has been added to the Individual Backgrounds page; in addition, the Audio Clips page has been updated to reflect this. Furthermore, the colors on the main user interface have been changed.
Moreover, more progress is being made to make this site more friendly to text-only browsers, such as lynx; if you are using a text-only browser and you find something difficult to read, please e-mail Dale at dalef@iname.com. Thanks.

Kimberly finally has her own e-mail address! It is MGLMLP@cybercomm.net. As explained in the E-mail Us section, you may send Kimberly e-mail about The Cars in general, or any other content-related features of this site you wish to discuss. Any technical questions, such as errors you have encountered on this site or difficulties operating certain features on "Heartbeat City", can be e-mailed to Dale at dalef@iname.com. This should decrease the time it takes to respond to e-mail sent to us.
Friday, September 20, 1996
The web counter that counts the number of visits to the main page, has now been added to the bottom of the main page (you can now see the access statistics without going to a separate page).
We have replaced the menu that appears at the bottom of each page with a less cluttered, more colorful user interface; we have avoided the use of bit-mapped graphics in this interface, in order to decrease download times. A Miscellaneous section has been added, including a Photo Credits page; this photo credits page details the source and other information about each of the images that appear on this site.
We have added more audio clips, however these are instrumental. These MIDI audio clips are smaller than the vocal audio clips, and hence download quicker. In addition, they have a longer playing time. Embedded audio clips have been added to the "Heartbeat City" album page, "Candy-O" album page, and The Cars Discography and Lyrics page. Moreover, the corresponding Audio Clips page has also been updated.
A "Help?" section has also been added; this section will provide a brief summary of each of "Heartbeat City"'s major sections.
Saturday, September 7, 1996
Some sections have been updated to include more links to other local pages.
More information has been added about delays in the response of e-mail. In addition, the lyrics sections have been reformatted, to optimize the display of web browsers that do not support tables. Users of browsers that support tables should see little, if any, difference on these pages.
Wednesday, August 28, 1996
An Audio Clips page has been added. So far, it includes the one audio clip that is local to Heartbeat City, and several other that are found on The Cars Official Home Page. Enjoy!
Tuesday, August 27, 1996
The <BGSOUND> tag has been removed from the main page. This tag permitted Microsoft Internet Explorer 2.0 to play "You Might Think", but unfortunately, it caused interference with Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0. Microsoft Explorer 3.0 and Netscape Navigator 3.0 both recognize the more versatile <EMBED> tag. If you have the earlier versions of these browsers, and if they do not support the <EMBED> tag, I would suggest that you upgrade; if you do not wish to upgrade at this time, you may download the audio file and play it with the audio file player of your choice.

Our Internet Access Provider (ISP), namely Stockton College, is in the process if installing an electronic firewall system, in an effort to safeguard the college's computer systems. This is causing disruptions in WWW service (you may have difficulty accessing this site), and delays in the delivery of e-mail. If you cannot access this site at a certain time, please try again later. In addition, please be advised that the computer that hosts Heartbeat City (loki.stockton.edu), goes down for backup, Monday-Friday, from about 10 p.m. to 12 a.m. (Eastern time). You will probably not be able to access this site during these times. As stated previously, your e-mail may not be delivered to us immediately. When it is delivered, we will attempt to answer it as soon as possible (please read the section on delays in responding to e-mail). Moreover, our ability to send e-mail has also been affected, so this ma
